i think the standard in bracketing tournament style events is you rank every team, or in this case image. you then pin your ranked best against the ranked worst (1 vs 32, and 2 vs 31 etc). this style of a bracket provides the greatest probability that the best will survive the longest. of course, b/c rankings are subjective there are always upsets, but then those move higher as they should. it is difficult as is b/c some shots are good enough to make the final 4 but instead won't even get past the round of 32 b/c they are pinned against a better image. learning process.
come on dude, critical thinking here...not whining. this isn't just a place for shoulder patting. i'd like to see a critical response with some real thought put into it.
you should look elsewhere for a bike photo revolution....that's not happening here.
edit - collective judges decisions are not reflective on individual judges opinions, but on the majority.
Judges, seriously, some of these are marginal and you know it. Some are great and should be in the 32, but others are just shockingly either a) weak action, b) weak composition c) not original or 2 or 3 of those put together. Stock 3 ft dj flash shot with joeys in the background....do flashes still amaze in a generic sense? double water splash...and on and on with probably 1/3 of those images......help people look forward into the future of image taking not into the past. Disappointing to see pinkbike continue to live up to its current status vs pushing it into one of more photographic recognition and reputation. Everyone has a right to an opinion, and these are the judges collective opinions, unfortunately most PB users don't agree according to the favs and nominations page.
the quality issues have been sorted...it turns out there were too many times of compressing the jpeg for various reasons. New images are being uploaded (the same images) and you'll see it is not a function of lazy or crap editing, but rather a function of jpeg compression too many times. These will be swapped as soon as possible, however, we still have some shoots to do, so that is taking precedence at the moment. thanks for the keen eyes.
hola amigos. thanks for sharing the stoke. in regards to the quality, it does look a bit funny. Everything here is crispy focused in full res, but exported at 70% quality to keep file size down and at 1024px (i.e. LESS than HD, b/c this is a website). I'm guessing this is the reason for it, as I usually keep the sharpening down to a minimum. As duncanp mentioned, the shots on my site don't look like that. ciao!
Any fine print? or usage of winning image?...
